Make Taco Tuesdays Special with Beef Birria Tacos

Take Taco Tuesday to the next level by making these easy birria tacos at home. Birria is a Mexican dish that’s usually made by braising meat, usually goat or beef, in a pot full of spices for 3-4 hours or longer to tenderize the meat and infuse it with the rich flavor we’ve all come to love. This recipe takes a similar approach in tenderizing the meat by simmering until tender but takes it to the next level by using Knorr Beef Cubes. Beef cubes help you get that full-bodied flavor of beef minus the meat. Pack your birria tacos with flavor without breaking the bank by using this special ingredient.

Ingredients

BIrria

  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 2 kg beef short ribs
  • 1 pack store-bought taco seasoning
  • 6 pcs garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 pc white onion, sliced into wedges
  • 1 can 400g crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 2 pcs Knorr Beef Cubes
  • 4 - 6 cups water

Assembly

  • 8 - 10 pcs small flour tortillas
  • cilantro leaves
  • grated melting cheese
Cooking Method

Make The Birria

  1. Heat oil in a pot over medium heat. Add the beef and sear on all sides. Do this in batches to not overcrowd the pot.

  2. Once done, put all the seared beef pieces back in the pot and add all the ingredients for the birria. For the water, add just enough that it covers the meat.

  3. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer. Cover the pot and allow it to cook until the beef pieces are tender. Depending on your meat, this can take as little as two hours to as long as 4 hours.

  4. Once the beef is tender, strain the beef from the braising sauce, making sure to set aside the broth for later use.

  5. Shred the beef pieces and set aside.

Assemble the Beef Birria Tacos

  1. Brush flour tortillas using the braising sauce and toast on a dry pan over medium heat.

  2. Fill half of the tortilla with shredded beef, a few cilantro leaves, and cheese.

  3. Fold the tortilla and proceed to toast a bit more. Take out of the pan and do the rest with your remaining birria and tortillas.

  4. Serve tacos with the braising sauce as the dip.
