Fried okra is a common dish in cajun cuisine but we added our own Pinoy spin to it by simplifying the coating and using cornstarch for that extra crunch. We also made a creamy umami dipping sauce using Pinoy favorite Knorr Liquid Seasoning Chili mixed with creamy Lady’s Choice Real Mayonnaise as the perfect complement to this okra recipe. Make this as an appetizer for your Filipino-themed parties or as a regular snack. You won’t regret it!

Ingredients

Fried Okra

  • 1/2 kg okra, sliced into ¼ inch circles
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 pc large egg
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • oil, enough to deep fry in

Creamy Umami Dipping Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup Lady's Choice Real mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Knorr Liquid Seasoning Chili
Cooking Method

Crispy Fried Okra:

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, beat the egg and season with salt and pepper.

  2. In a separate bowl, combine sliced okra and flour. Shake off excess flour.

  3. Add floured okra into the bowl with the egg and mix to coat the okra well.

  4. Add the coated okra to a shallow bowl with cornstarch seasoned with salt and pepper. Set aside.

  5. Heat oil enough to deep fry the okras in a wok or a frying pan.

  6. Once the oil is hot, deep fry the okras until golden brown. Make sure to shake off the excess cornstarch before deep frying.

  7. Drain oil on paper towels.

Creamy Umami Dipping Sauce:

  1. Mix the creamy umami dipping sauce for the okra in a small bowl.

  2. Serve with the crispy fried okra and enjoy this delicious appetizer.
