Ingredients
  • 2 cups warm cooked Japanese, short grain, or Dinorado rice
  • 1 cup Lady's Choice Japanese-Style Mayonnaise
  • 1 cup chopped or shredded crabstick
  • crispy seaweed sheets
  • 2 cups warm cooked Japanese, short grain, or Dinorado rice
  • 1 cup Lady's Choice Japanese-Style Mayonnaise
  • 1 cup chopped or shredded crabstick
  • crispy seaweed sheets
Cooking Method
  1. Prepare and Press the Rice Prepare a medium rectangular oven-proof dish. Press the warm cooked rice evenly into the dish, gently flattening it with the back of a spoon to create a compact base. Set aside. Tip: Lightly wet your spoon or hands with water to prevent the rice from sticking and to achieve a smooth, even layer.

  2. Make the Crabstick Topping In a bowl, combine Lady's Choice Japanese-Style Mayonnaise and chopped crabsticks. Stir until evenly coated.

  3. Layer the Mixture Spread the crab mixture evenly over the pressed rice, making sure it fully covers the surface from edge to edge. Sprinkle crumbled crispy seaweed on top.

  4. Bake and Finish Preheat oven to 180°C. Bake sushi for 10–15 minutes or until the top is heated through and lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving with extra seaweed sheets for wrapping.

What Is Sushi Bake?

Sushi bake is a casserole-style dish that layers seasoned rice, creamy crabstick mixture, and toppings, then bakes them together in one pan. Unlike traditional sushi rolls, this baked sushi recipe skips the rolling and arranges the components in layers for easy scooping and serving. It went viral on social media, thanks to its easy preparation and visually appealing, Instagram-ready presentation.

Key Ingredients of Sushi Bake

This baked sushi recipe centers on three main components: Japanese-style sushi rice, a flavorful main protein, and a creamy, umami mayo mixture with different toppings for texture and contrast. The rice forms the base, the crabsticks mixed with mayonnaise and soy sauce create the savory layer, and crispy seaweed brings crunch and umami. Add extra seasonings or sauces to suit your taste and make the most of what’s available in your kitchen.

How to Serve Sushi Bake

Serve sushi bake warm straight from the oven. Use seaweed sheets to scoop portions and create bite-sized wraps. Pair it with other well-loved Japanese favorites like karaage, gyoza, and okonomiyaki for a full family bonding spread.
