Soup doesn't always hit the spot on cold, rainy days. Sure, a bowl of chicken sopas or creamy clam chowder is satisfying, but try having it every day of the week. It can get tired pretty quickly. Plus, soup doesn't travel well, especially if you’re rushing to pick up your preschooler or dialing into a video call. As delicious as soup is, it's not the most versatile. The tasty solution to your issue? Look no further than comforting hot sandwiches.

Grilled cheese, Reuben, and sliders are some hot sandwich examples you already know – and maybe even love. But perhaps you’re thinking, “Do I have enough time to prepare them on a weekday?” Yes, you do! Don’t feel intimidated by the extra step of toasting, heating, or grilling your sub. Settling for a cold spread on a lonely slice of bread is out of the question. Your appetite deserves that hot treat!

Weeklong Hot Sandwich Menu Plan

These are no regular hot sandwiches. They give the usual fun, creative twists to make your meals more exciting. But they still only require pantry staples and under 30 minutes to prep. Are you already warming up to the idea? Here’s a weeklong menu featuring one hot sandwich recipe per day, using assorted proteins and different types of bread. Enjoy!

Monday: rainbow wrap

Start your workweek with this meatless choice. A colorful veggie wrap can brighten your day, no matter how hectic your schedule looks. Pick seven types of vegetables following the rainbow’s colors: red bell pepper, carrots, squash, zucchini, red onion, and purple cabbage. Slice into strips or rounds and grill until cooked. Spread a garlic-based spread on warmed tortilla wraps or pita pockets and fill the veg. Done!

Tuesday: avocado tuna melt

You can’t go wrong with a tuna sandwich. Tuna flakes, chopped onions, and mayonnaise are the only ingredients you need for the classic spread. But to make it more exciting, try an open-faced tuna melt loaded with creamy avocados. Take a whole-wheat slice of bread, spread your tuna filling, and top with avocado slices. Blanket all that with an American cheese slice and heat in a toaster oven until warm and gooey.

Wednesday: chicken inasal sandwich

Chicken inasal served without rice? Blasphemous! But give this sandwich recipe a chance, especially if you jump from one location to another on hump day. Take freshly grilled or leftover inasal and shred or cut into bite-sized pieces. Stuff chicken, lettuce, tomato slices, and onion rounds into wheat tortillas, pandesal, or monay. Toast, grab, and go! Missing the classic sawsawan? Mix mayo, calamansi juice, soy sauce, and chili flakes, then drizzle over your filling.

Thursday: fruit and nut grilled cheese

Spent last night with friends and have leftovers from your charcuterie board? Gather all those bits and pieces and add them to your grilled cheese. Fill your sourdough slices with apple slices, dried cranberries, cashews, almonds, and any cheese you have on hand. Toast until melted and gooey! Pro tip: spread mayonnaise on the outsides of your bread for that crunchy, golden finish.

Friday: potato chip panini

It’s Friday, hooray! Time to indulge and reclaim your guilty pleasures. But before you finish that bag of chips, add some to your grilled panini. Take a ciabatta or focaccia and fill it with your favorite pantry ingredients. Get creative by trying new combinations: Lady's Choice Chicken Spread, tomatoes, and cilantro. Or something sweet with peanut butter, bananas, chocolate chips, and bacon bits? Just don’t forget the chips for extra crunch and excitement!

Saturday: brunch-wich

This sandwich is your perfect excuse to sleep in and schedule brunch with your family closer to noon. It combines your favorite breakfast fare into one handheld treat that will please even the kids. Take two fluffy pancakes and fill them with scrambled eggs, cheese, crispy bacon, and a drizzle of maple syrup. Other proteins like corned beef, adobo flakes, and shredded chicken work well, too.

Sunday: “Fili” cheesesteak

Want something extra hearty to enjoy on Sunday? Make a “Fili” cheesesteak – a version of the classic sub made with Filipino ingredients. Butter and toast panaderya hot dog buns, then fill with sliced sweetish beef tapa, kesong puti, and caramelized onions. Reheat until the cheese is melted, then serve with kamote fries and atchara on the side. Want some spice? Top your cheesesteak with chopped siling pangsigang.

These recipe ideas prove how little prep time you need to make winner hot sandwiches. You don’t even have to spend much for extra spreads and fillings. Grab some staples and mix and match to your heart’s desire. Next week is looking extra tasty and comforting!
