Do you still remember your baon when you were a grade-schooler? Chances are a classic ham, egg, and cheese sandwich was part of the weekly rotation. It’s the baon of choice for schoolkids across generations – who can resist its simplicity, versatility, and promise of satisfaction in each bite?

Now, you and your family may be looking for a new way to enjoy this comfort food. That’s where this recipe comes in. It combines the heartiness of a ham and cheese sandwich with the nostalgia of homemade egg mayo salad – all served in warm pandesal. It's so enjoyable, you’ll want to pack a few helpings for yourself, too.

How to Make Ham, Egg, and Cheese Sandwich Heartier

Adding eggs makes this seem like a ham and cheese breakfast sandwich, but you can enjoy it any time of day. It’s light enough to serve as midday fuel, so it works for merienda. But you can also double the portions to make a filling, on-the-go lunch for busy school (or work!) days. Feel free to use different types of bread, too. Pandesal is just the easiest one to get fresh out of the oven, especially in the Philippines.

Ingredients

• 2 large eggs, hard-boiled and peeled
• ¼ cup Lady’s Choice Real Mayonnaise
• ½ tsp garlic powder
• 1 cup chopped cooked ham
• salt and pepper, to taste
• 6 large pandesal
• 1 tsp cheese spread

Method

1. Roughly chop boiled eggs. Transfer to a bowl.
2. Add Lady’s Choice Real Mayonnaise, garlic powder, and ham. Season with salt and pepper. Chill until ready to serve.
3. Slice pandesal in half. Toast if desired. Spread cheese on the bottom half. Top with egg-and-ham mixture, then cover with the other bread half.
4. Repeat with remaining ingredients. Serve immediately.

Other Must-Try Breakfast Sandwich Ingredients

Are you looking for other sandwich ingredients that pair well with the golden trio of ham, eggs, and cheese? Look no further than these breakfast staples!

Avocado

Did you grow up drinking avocado shakes sweetened with condensed milk? You were probably surprised to find out how nutritious this fruit is. Add this to your ham and egg mash for a healthy dose of omega-3 fatty acids.

Waffles

No bread, no problem! Use waffles as the base for your sandwich instead. If you don’t have a waffle maker, that’s okay. Frozen waffles are just as good – just pop them in the toaster and layer away.

Fruit jams and jellies

Sweet and savory is always a good match! Try blueberry jam with your ham and cheese for a Monte Cristo-inspired sandwich. For the complete experience, drench your bread slices in an egg-milk batter and fry them like French toast.

Fresh greens

Maybe you want a little freshness for balance. Crisp greens, like lettuce and spinach, are the way to go. Both are mild enough that your schoolkid might not even notice the veggies in their sandwich.
